In a distressing incident from the rural areas of Bareilly district, an 11-year-old girl, who was reportedly a victim of sexual assault, has given birth to a child. Unfortunately, the newborn passed away just half an hour after delivery due to being born prematurely at seven months gestation, as confirmed by local police on Saturday.
Following a complaint lodged at the Nawabganj police station, authorities arrested a 31-year-old man named Rashid on Saturday, who is accused of raping the minor and engaging in sexual relations with her.
Inspector Arun Kumar Srivastava, in charge of the Nawabganj police station, reported that the victim's elder brother filed a complaint stating that Rashid had allegedly assaulted the girl multiple times, instilling such fear in her that she felt unable to disclose her suffering to anyone. It was only after the girl experienced persistent abdominal pain that her family took her for an ultrasound on Thursday, revealing that she was six months pregnant.
Srivastava further mentioned that the girl was admitted to the district women's hospital on Thursday night, where she subsequently gave birth. Tragically, the infant died shortly after birth.
Dr. Tribhuvan Prasad, the Chief Medical Superintendent of the district women's hospital, stated on Saturday that the minor's condition was critical due to excessive bleeding and the complications arising from childbirth at such a young age. However, he noted that her health has been steadily improving since then.
